I’ve worked as a tech guy for over twenty years. That’s a whole lot of tech support, website design, graphics work, computer purchasing, hardware maintenance, and meetings (lots of meetings). Trouble is, I never specialized and now I find it harder and harder to get a job. So, I figured, maybe it’s better if I look to create my own livelihood rather than relying on getting hired into a company that feels it’s appropriate to lay me off if the boss’ cousin just turned 18 and “knows computers.”
But I’ve been finding that new things are tough. Computers are easy, they follow rules, and there is usually some sort of way to get them to do what you want. Worst case, you buy a different one and try again.
I’m someone who studies — a lot — and with great joy about cracking open a book or website, but even with my studying, I find I’m having a super-hard time with getting a business underway. So here I am, admitting to everyone that I’m a fumbler and hoping to get the help and experience that I need by working through everything in this public space. Heaven help us all.
On the personal side, you may find that I post on occasion about things Disney. I have to admit that I’m a fan, though mostly of the output. I’m especially fascinated by the way that the company has managed to produce entertainment and experience-environments and how they have managed to stay consistent and on-message for all these years. As a profit generating organism, The Disney Company is fascinating to me. Plus, I like their stuff.
